Looking to get any info on recommendations for some backcountry snowboarding in the Sierras this winter. Roads normally start to close some time next month and I was curious if anyone had some knowledge of relatively easily accessed backcountry riding while roads are closed.
Sure, 120 and 108 are closed in the winter, but there's still an enormous amount of easily accessible backcountry skiing/riding in CA.
The Tahoe area is loaded with easily accessible bc options and is your best bet coming from the bay area. Getting down the east side is a little harder in winter from the bay, but worth it. The Eastern Sierra from Bridgeport to Lone Pine has multiple lifetimes worth of skiing options. The Mammoth area is loaded.

Wow, thanks for all of the great resources! I will actually be down in Souther California for the winter so access to the Eastern Sierra will be no problem! Cstuck, i'll keep you in mind once the season starts up, but because I will be in Southern California I don't know if I will be making the trek all the way up to Tahoe!
Take the plane that takes off daily from san fran to mammoth after thanksgiving.takes 45 minutes. Buy the book ( backcountry skiing and snowboarding the eastern sierra by nate greenberg. And get some massive lines. Mahalo
