Anyone have beta about the routes here? I was taking the kids for a walk by the river and saw a lot more bolts than I expected. I've known there were some bolted routes there for years, but geez...for zero info anywhere there were WAY more than I expected to see.

Whatever you do, do not climb on them after it rained in the last few days. The sandstone holds will brake off. There are a couple of moderates and the rest are >=5.10. Years ago I had a link to it but no more.

Ive climbed there. This area was developed many years ago, by a pair of teenage brothers. Like most everything they did, they were secretive and vague when it came to details. It probably had to do with concerns about access, but that was their general policy, and I don't know that they had any problems there specifically. You know how non-climbers are, especially in the midwest, so you can't blame them. They have provided little info, and at least in my circles, not many know much about this place. Doubt any of these people will reveal details. Personally, I thought it was dreadful, and after climbing there, I stopped caring. But if you insist, I think the most efficient way to learn more would be to climb there.

I can't speak to access issues currently, so if anyone else knows about this, say so. In terms of the crag itself, if bolts sunk into the sandiest crag in the world is in the 'safe' category for you, you're set.

With the recent rain some areas might be blocked off due to the river being high. As far as how safe it is... that depends on your level of safe. The rock in a few spots can be really good, and offer fun climbing. While most other spots it’s a gamble. The bolts on most routes are pretty rusted down, and some anchors are missing. Setting up a top rope can be done, but you have to be careful not to hit people down below with a rock shower. It’s a fun place if you happen to be in Stillwater and need to scratch the itch.
