Used Camalot prices
|

I was following the For sale/ wanted forum and noticed that the used cams for sale are priced relatively high comparing to new ones. In EBAY it's the same. Why is that? |

People are stupid and will buy used gear to save 5 bucks? |

Similar to Japanese cars, Chinese made cams depreciate less. I mean who wants to whip on american or british aluminum? |

That is one reason that can explain why pepole are willing to spend 45$ (and more) on the old style. So the old style camalot was made in the US, but do all the new c4 are made in China? I mean, was there a time when the new c4s where made in the US? |

Where is the example of the chinese assembled C4s being less reliable than the u.s. made? |

I'd speculate that it has more to do with the useful life of a cam and less with where it was manufactured. Only a small % of the usergroup actually cares enough about where it was made to buy/not buy a particular cam. Many may whine on the interweb about outsourced manufacturing, but a majority of climbers still buy BD cams. |

The new #4 is essentially the old #3.5, which was the same size as the #4 friend. The old style #4 dissappeared entirely, and there is literally no other cam on the market that covers its range. |

Even a small savings on every cam adds up! If you buy 20 cams and save $10 to $20 off of retail per cam, that's a decent chunk of change... |
