my motto with ice gloves, the more the merrier. people will recommend everything from work gloves to the bd gloves with the heaters. just get a a few, whatever you can get cheap. someone was selling some BD mixed climbing gloves on here recently, i have those and love them.

There's just no way to have gloves with both dexerity and warmth. I suggest thinner gloves for climbing, and warmer gloves for belaying. Most of the experienced climbers I know use this strategy. Most of those that don't still have a multi-glove strategy, maybe 2, 3, or even 4 pairs of the same gloves. Rotating them through keeps a dry, warm pair on your hands.

I climb mostly in the Daks and use the Punisher for my climbing glove. They are much-loved around here, even on the coldest days. My fingers, like many other people's, get chilly. I don't mind a little cold for the extra dexterity. Some do. My partner got the screaming barfies pretty good this weekend and is looking at the Enforcer, which is a little warmer. FWIW I use the Grivel Quantum Tech - I think the less-agressive grip on our tools demands a more dextrous glove than Nomics or the like.

For belays I use the MH Medusa. If the terrain is easy and it's super-cold I might climb in them a little bit as well (Mt. Washington). I like having them with me, as the removable liners are great for approaches and suprise warm spells.

Whichever pair I'm not wearing gets stuffed down in my jacket, so they are drier and nice and warm when I put them on.

Lots of people I know love mittens for belaying. My main climbing partner gets cold hands somewhat easily, and he keeps his BD Mercury Mitts with him all the time. For most belays, he just throws the outer mitten shell over his climbing gloves. If he's sweating them out and wants to dry them or it's really cold, the Punishers go into his jacket and he wears the mitten liners as well.

I tend to get cold fingers and toes easily at belays. My solution has been to always bring a slightly warmer belay parka than I think I'll need, and put it on as soon as I hit the belay, before I cool down. I get it on, zip it up, cinch the hood down, and warm up super-fast. Any coldness in my digits dissapears soon after.

For actual climbing, I'm loving the Rab M14 on warmer days and the BD Punisher for colder ones. Like was previously suggested, I bring both pairs with me climbing and pull out the $10 insulated work gloves for belay/rappel duty. Wax up some cheap leather work gloves and they get the job done while saving your expensive ones for the actual climbing. Feels like I'm constantly swapping gloves out from inside my jacket, but my hands stay happy.

The Mammut Guide Work glove is a pretty darned good compromise between dexterity and warmth. For warmer days I use the Guide Radial and for warmest days and mixed the BD Torque. I was a Punisher fan until they started putting that stupid padding on the outside of the pinky finger - too bulky.

OR Alibi. Covered in Primaloft and has enough dexterity to climb while keep you warm and belay. One of my favorite pieces of gear, love it for Alpine.

for less than $20 you can try vinyl insulated gloves like folks in the fishing industry use. they are rated to -4 degrees and stay flexy and grippy. dudes that handle icy, wet fish all day should know something about staying dry and warm... i'm just sayin'. gonna try mine out in a couple weeks. i'll agree, more gloves is better; go with what works.

Favorite? Minus One, Hydra or Typhon depending on temps.
But most typically the Hydra.
But not the only choices.

I like punishers, but climb in a pair of torques once and you'll dream up all sorts of schemes to keep you digits warm while wearing them, they climb so much better. I'd love to have that tacky palm on a warmer glove.

I have the MH Jalepeno gloves which are pretty good, and some Kinco work gloves, which are absolutely awesome for about $20 a pair.

i really like my OR extraverts. I use them for just about everything. just slip them into your jacket and swap on some warmer gloves for belay duty.

Also, the first accent guide gloves seem like they would be good for colder days. i haven't had any specific experience with them, but i've tryed them on, and they seem bomber. i almost got a pair with their last sale...

Punishers for climbing, Mercury mitts for belaying.

If it's not so cold to need the Punishers, I'll use a pair of lightweight liner gloves under an old pair of BD waterproof gauntlet shell gloves that I found on evilBay a couple years back for cheap.

My favorite gloves are the ones that fit the best and don't restrict circulation.

I've found through the years that the warmest gloves for ice c limbing are not necesarily the ones which have the most insulation. When you grip the tool you also have to compress the material that keeps your hands warm and that can create a flash pump almost as much as anything else. I look for fit and durability. Remember you gotta put in those screws and they have rough knobs on them that wear out fingers..........My favorite gloves are:

Punishers by BD. I use these probably 80% of the time
Almost any glove by OR because they all fit me well.

My vote goes to the BD Punishers too bad they are so freakin expensive.

Huge fan of the OR stormtracker softshell gloves. If it's super cold i'll follow with a pair of over mitts

Fly low work gloves
Leather palm lightly lined silicone treated leather , grip the tools well, haven't worn out a pair yet belaying or rapelling in over two years and there only 28 bucks
