Who has the best cell coverage in the front range area? My wife and I need to get on a family plan and we don't know who to go with. I've read sprint is the best out there?

FWIW, Verizon beats AT&T, Sprint, and Cricket in the mountains and in the metro area. AT&T, Sprint, and Cricket drop calls regularly. There are quite a few dead zones for AT&T and Cricket even in people's homes or schools around the metro area. Addendum: FWIW, we've had cell phones (same make, different carriers) side by side at crags and there are some carriers that just don't get service. Certain jobs require you to be able to reachable.

Its a function of the radio on the cell phone. Go to any dealer and ask him for the radio spec and they will just start talking about the different apps and features of the phones...never the max power output. Some of the phones list average power output and even those with better specs still have a lousy antenna that prevents it from being good phone. If you are looking for good coverage, get the flip phones from Motorola or Kyocera (not Samsung)and you should always have coverage no matter who your carrier is. Then again if you go down the smart phone path, you will hit dead zones with every carrier.

StraightTalk uses the same towers as Verizon, so you should get coverage same as Verizon (perhaps depending on the phone, too, as the last poster pointed out.) No contracts, pay by month. $30 = 1000 min, 1000 text, 1000 MB data. $45 = unlimited everything. Works for me, so far. I cut my phone bill in half by switching.

Tried Sprint 6 years ago and coverage in the mountains was pretty poor. Using Verizon now, coverage is significantly better but you'll still hit plenty of dead zones. For what it's worth my Samsung Galaxy seems to connect about the same as the Motorola and LG flip phones I've used, also about the same as my wife's Incredible.

Don't want to get into a big debate over Verizon vs AT&T but I've been with AT&T for 8 years now andnever had 1 dropped call . What I've found out while traveling with friends who have Verizon is there very few places where 1 carrier works and the other does not . Not enough to matter IMOH Being a radio tech I have to agree w/ Terry , it's a function of the radio in the phone Everyone wants a smartphone that does everything and when the manufactures build A do everything phone they don't always spend the most money on the radio or put some crappy antenna in there to save room for a 10 million megapixel camera. Nomatter who you go with get a phone with a good radio first , then worry about all that other junk . Think about who builds two way radios ie- Motorolla , Icom, ect. Cheers

Thanks, I have an iphone now and to be honest I'll probably be getting rid of it to go back to a simple phone that makes and answers calls and can send a text message. I have ATT now, my wife has Verizon. I'll have to look into straighttalk!
