Well, I have no idea of their condition, what you really have and what you are asking for them, etc.

Micheal The best estimate I can give you on the Eiger Carabiner you have pictured is that it could be a late 60's early 70's model. The cross pins in the gate are riveted at the ends unlike the later models which used Stainless Steel groove pins that were press fitted. (Later even though we used stainless steel groove pins we did go back to riveting the front cross pins but you can tell if they were grooved pins by opening the gate and looking at the cross pins. If they are grooved across they will be off a later model carabineer made after 1980) Early models like the one you have use drill rod and will rust. Furthermore the hinge pin in early models were flattened out of aluminum round stock. In later models the hinge pin is flat stainless steel stock. Later models also did away with the knurl at the front of the gate. By the way The body of the Carabineer is made from 7075-T6 and the gate of the biners was always made from 2024-t3 Aluminum. Hope this helps ...

My red one has rusted non-groove pins, aluminum stock hinge pin, and a knurled gate.

I have an oval stamped "Gendarme" that looks like it's a re-branded Eiger. (The Gendarme is (was?) the climbing shop at Seneca Rocks WV). Has SS groove pins and no knurling. Not shiny but otherwise like new.

Just to let the forum know Gendarme Carabineers are carabineers that came from Stanley Brozek Co (S.B.C.I) They are just one of the many brands we put on the Carabineers we sold to our Customers Peter

I've got a shitload of old EIGER's I've got several ovals, even more D's with the anodized orange gate, and a Locking D. I purchased them at Midwest Mountaineering in Minneapolis, back around 1971-72 ? This was back when Midwest Mountaineering was on Hennipen Ave, up a steep, narrow, creaky flight of stairs, on the second floor of an old building that was demolished decades ago, before it moved to the more upbeat area in which it now resides. I still use my EIGER's quite regularly. They're older than most of the climbers I pull down with these days.

Tom As the manufacturer of Eiger "biners" I can also tell you we branded quite a few Carabiners with "Midwest Mountaineering" It was such a long name we had two stamp it twice to get the whole name on the body of the Carabiners... They use to order 500 to 1,000 units every year so you might run into them as well.....Those Carabiners would have been manufactured after the 80"s

I have never even SEEN a anodized Eiger carabiner not one of their 'D' carabiners as well!

Perhaps you can post a picture of these anodized 'biners and/or one of their 'D' models as well? I'd LOVE to see what they looked like and have a pic of them for my photo 'collection.' Or - pics can be e-mailed to be as well at: Scoobiedoo6559@gmail.com also. Thanks!

Hi, Someone from here was kind enuff to recently just send me two plain Eiger carabiners via the mail....sorry - but I forgot who's name appeared on the soft envelope when I opened them - they were wrapped in paper towels and I just wanted to thank this person for their generosity and kindness in sending them to me! Thank you very much whomever this was!
