Organ Mountain Access.

Hello, Recently I've been trying to find any information on accessing the Organ mountains, I thought that since it was on the AFB land no one was allowed access unless they had gotten specific permission. I will be back in Las Cruces next month some time, I've been living there for almost a year and the mountains are still taunting me as I've not been up there yet. |

If anyone knows if you need specific permission, and where to get it, that would be appreciated or if it is a free for all that would be more appreciated. A lot of the Organ mountains are BLM (Organ Mountain Recreational Area) land available for climbing. The Army controls some of the Organs and their lands are generally unavailable to the public. |

Thank you for the information, things are looking good for when I get back, my next question is do you know of a group, or some people, who go up to the Oregon mountains fairly consistently? |

I no longer live in Las Cruces but there are a few people who post to mountain project from there. I would try the partner finder. |

My take on the Organs: get up there. The approaches are long and sometimes a bit bushwhacky, but the rock is very good, and the routes I have been on have been fun and adventurous and well worth the effort. Whoever posted the approach times on this site, however, must be a real tough guy because I have found that the approaches take me about double what they suggest. I'm an out of shape city boy though. |
