He was lame

He was lame
as a three legged dog
screamed as he came
through the fog

Beat me to it Doug. Was it actually a climber that was killed/injured or just some dumb ass drunk that fell off the top?

A climber from the Green Bay area. His name escapes me at the moment, but he was one of the people who worked hardest to try get it reopened before we finally gave up. And of all the rescues and recoveries at Gibralter, he was probably the *only* climber.

Three pages into this thread...and we STILL don't know if the guy had a bowl-cut. Get with the program already, eh!

I know this is a late response (sorry, I've been on the road), but the moronic inability of many mountainprodgers to grasp any sort of sarcasm or satire is some of the highest on the internet.

Should I post the definition of "Sarcasm" or "gullible" for you?

This thread needs to be renewed immediately with some quality content. And by quality, I mean more a-some pictures of dudes toproping boulder problems and/or stories about bowlcuts. If this doesn't happen, I will resign my account.

petz- you're right making fun of style (or lack there of) is pretty silly. can't you agree that whining about 'newbies' being a liability is silly as well? I think 80% of the time that people bitch about new climbers fucking up it is really an attempt to distance themselves from that stage of the learning process, seldom are they genuinely frustrated by the 'liability.'

Maybe we can all see a new climber junk-showing as an opportunity to help and not a liability. there are lots of threads on my, like the bowl-cut thread and this one that i think sort of promote a distance between the almighty mpers and the 'n00bs'. does anyone else feel like this word is fucking stupid?

the other day i saw a girl starting off route on into an unprotectable corner and mentioned that she might be off route and she might want to start 20 feet to her left. she was understanding and grateful, it was truly a positive experience for all. Yeah i giggled a bit but also understood where she was on the learning curve.

josh- this is a pointless thread but we are all rock climbers and rock climbing is a pointless activity. i also think that leaders of all grades should be able to talk shit. by the way, i forgot to update my mp profile but i just tredpointed my 4 year 9+ proj. if you find yourself in bozeman you should pm me so we can go climb rocks together. seriously. all internet bickering aside lest go rock climbing.

Wave action eroding a boulder until polished... From a lake? Must be one heck of a lake.

this has to be a troll no?

Ever been to the Great Lakes? Superior especially is nasty sometimes! (See: Edmund Fitzgerald) They're basically exactly like oceans without the tides. In fact, when I first saw the ocean (I live in Michigan), it was rather underwhelming as it looked exactly like the Great Lakes, just dirtier.

This is pretty misleading. The great lakes don't even come close to the oceans in terms of waves. And I'm pretty sure they do have tides.

Edit: OK, I guess they don't have tides. But seriously, who isn't impressed by the oceans?! That's like saying the Himalaya aren't impressive after seeing the Rockies!

Who the fuck cares? You guys are obviously missing the entire point to this thread. I want to see more sweet bouldering/top-rope pictures, NOW.

If you haven't been to the Great Lakes, they really do look exactly like the ocean. You can't tell the difference, especially if it's a calmer day (I've only seen the ocean something like 4 times and I believe it's been calm all those times.) As far as your eye can see, you see only water. You cannot see any more due to the horizon. There's nothing you can do to determine that the Great Lakes are quite a bit smaller than the oceans. Your eyes just can't do that.

Obviously the oceans can be much rougher, but the Great Lakes can get rougher than most would imagine (thunderstorms are AWESOME!). Basically, I'm just saying that lakes can get rough, if suitably large.

To continue veering completely off the OP's thought, Tom, the Great Lakes do have tides. Swimming pools have tides, they're just infintesially small. I think Superior has a tide around 1 inch or so (sorry, science geek coming out. And to my fellow nerdlings, yes, I realize that lakes can't have tides by definition, but the gravitionational pull of the moon does have an effect).
Kestrel - it's the period, not waveheight that matters (in terms of being on the water in a strom), therefore yes, the Great Lakes have some mother#$%#$ of storms. I was sailing in the swell left over from a hurricane coming back from Bermuda with 15-20' waves, and it was cake, because theywere such slow rollers. The Great Lakes, being so shallow, keep smashing into the boat. I've seen videos of storms on the great lakes that give me serious pucker factor.

To the OP - Ummm, "kettle, there's a pot on line two, something about you being black..."

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
