Beat me to it Doug. Was it actually a climber that was killed/injured or just some dumb ass drunk that fell off the top? |

His name escapes me at the moment, but he was one of the people who worked hardest to try get it reopened before we finally gave up. And of all the rescues and recoveries at Gibralter, he was probably the *only* climber. |

Three pages into this thread...and we STILL don't know if the guy had a bowl-cut. Get with the program already, eh! |

Disabled so that movement, especially walking, is difficult or impossible: Lame from the accident, he walked with a cane. A lame wing kept the bird from flying. 2. Marked by pain or rigidness: a lame back. 3. Weak and ineffectual; unsatisfactory: a lame attempt to apologize; lame excuses for not arriving on time. ( thefreedictionary.com/lame) lame1 adj 1. (Medicine / Pathology) disabled or crippled in the legs or feet 2. painful or weak a lame back 3. weak; unconvincing a lame excuse 4. not effective or enthusiastic a lame try 5. US slang conventional or uninspiring (american heritage) (Kernerman multilingual) Ineffectual, unsatisfactory, unacceptable. With all due respect for adversity you faced (authentic or troll), and without malintention, yes lame was the word I meant to use. (meaning is found by the reader in the context when words have multiple definitions...sorry that you were confused by it) I know this is a late response (sorry, I've been on the road), but the moronic inability of many mountainprodgers to grasp any sort of sarcasm or satire is some of the highest on the internet. |

This thread needs to be renewed immediately with some quality content. And by quality, I mean more a-some pictures of dudes toproping boulder problems and/or stories about bowlcuts. If this doesn't happen, I will resign my account. |

petz- you're right making fun of style (or lack there of) is pretty silly. can't you agree that whining about 'newbies' being a liability is silly as well? I think 80% of the time that people bitch about new climbers fucking up it is really an attempt to distance themselves from that stage of the learning process, seldom are they genuinely frustrated by the 'liability.' |

Superior especially is nasty sometimes! (See: Edmund Fitzgerald) They're basically exactly like oceans without the tides. In fact, when I first saw the ocean (I live in Michigan), it was rather underwhelming as it looked exactly like the Great Lakes, just dirtier. |

The great lakes don't even come close to the oceans in terms of waves. And I'm pretty sure they do have tides. |

You guys are obviously missing the entire point to this thread. I want to see more sweet bouldering/top-rope pictures, NOW. |

If you haven't been to the Great Lakes, they really do look exactly like the ocean. You can't tell the difference, especially if it's a calmer day (I've only seen the ocean something like 4 times and I believe it's been calm all those times.) As far as your eye can see, you see only water. You cannot see any more due to the horizon. There's nothing you can do to determine that the Great Lakes are quite a bit smaller than the oceans. Your eyes just can't do that. |

To continue veering completely off the OP's thought, Tom, the Great Lakes do have tides. Swimming pools have tides, they're just infintesially small. I think Superior has a tide around 1 inch or so (sorry, science geek coming out. And to my fellow nerdlings, yes, I realize that lakes can't have tides by definition, but the gravitionational pull of the moon does have an effect). |
