Fred,

Don't give me your passive agressive bullshit. I am tired of it and will not tolerate it.

People have been burning TP as an option for disposal for decades. How many forest fires have started that way?? Zero. Why? Because it is intuitively obvious not to do this when it is windy, and you bury the ash in the cathole. Ash and crap do not spontaneously surface and combust.

The results from the sample's DNA are conclusive. It's a 99.7% chance that the crap is derived from Jimbo & a 0.3% chance it was derived from Geir.
BTW Eric, BPE!

Holy mackerel! Talk about an overreaction! Fred's comment seemed like a reasonable, civil comment to me, even if you disagreed with the idea. No need to lambaste him.

Grow a pair. Jimbo is 5000x more respectable than you.

Hey Frank,

Didn't mean to ruffle your feathers. There's more to the story than what's written here. Just making it clear to Fred (and to flubstub) that I'm calling out BS. My apologies if it offended you.

Regards,
Geir

Geir,

Yeah, there must be some "history" there. Thanks for not hammering me for my comment!

No worries at all. Climb safe! :)

For the record. I don't use TP in the woods. A few choice rocks or sticks can do the job.

Geir , I gotta agree with Fred on this one. The whole friggin state is burning down! If you have to use TP bury in a cat hole or borrow Shawn's socks.

Any flame in the woods at this time is a very bad idea.

Geir,

I was surprised to see your post suggesting that people burn TP based somewhat on my personal experience with others who have done the same but had problems related to such a disposal process. Unfortunately, they were less than adept at doing things but luckily it didn't lead to any big issues and we were able to handle it effectively.

Also, I had just read about the Wallow fire near Alpine. Here's the latest on that:

I still think suggesting that others light up matches, etc., in the open desert or forest is a bad idea right now for anybody, regardless of expertise or local weather conditions.

Just my personal view of course.

Shawn said: "I always use my socks, they don't blow around. "

Dang Shawn... I thought that was just dirt on your socks. You should consider throwing them away at some point!

OK. I was waiting until I could get the patent on this , but here it is-- my own paper disposal technique I've used for many years without any problems: Foil Burritos. You still get to use your nice, triple-ply Charmin with extra fluff but you're packing it out without a mess. Roll it up burrito fashion as you smash it down. Lightweight, tidy, compact, it doesn't let the odor out (really),and you can store it in a ziplock for extra security.

I keep a bunch of lightly folded squares of foil with the tp in a ziplock and I'm G2G.

Try it ... you'll like it.

Hahaha, I love Mountain Project, there is always a good laugh to be found here! EFR, I hate shit as much as the next fella, hell, I found a pile (tp and all) at the back of Peppersauce cave last month, talk about lame!

And I still think that (some) of your posts are passive agressive shitpiles. I won't put up with them. Just my personal view of course.

Thanks Jeff for the clever alternative. Personally I use the rock technique Jimbo described, which while uncomfortable eliminates TP altogether. Fred, do you think the friction between my ass and the rock will ignite the dry ground cover? Are there rock types (such as flint) that I should not wipe with?

Too much pepper sauce I would say.

Geir,

Your view is duly noted. Wipe with whatever you choose, just please don't burn your TP when out in the open desert or forest.

Just my $.02.

Allow me to share something with you all. While living in Thailand, I was fortunate enough to have been trained in the ancient art of force pooing (Kảlạng xuccāra). It's a technique whereby one focuses all their inner Chi deep into the lower bowel region and then unleashes it via a massive Chi force wave. When timed with a precision release of the sphincter muscles, waste can be ejected at such force that virtually no residue is left behind to wipe.

Pros:

  • No wiping / no paper
  • No need to dig hole (just fill in crater)
  • Clever icebreaker

Cons:

  • Sonic boom can be heard for miles
  • Scares the shit out of wildlife and campers
  • Difficult to use on big walls without drawing unwanted attention and/or creating unsavory conditions for groundfolk
  • Considered taboo in some cultures

Hope this helps widen the options for anyone looking for alternatives to using toilet paper.

Happy pooing

Maybe you are right, but I am not comfortable suggesting people burn in AZ. I pack it out in a ziplock. Its easy and I act like a leave-no-trace-mother-fucker. I say pack it out!

Be careful about making authoritative statements that are so easily disproved. These from a simple google search.

Ah! Some solid evidence, you can't beat that. It appears I was wrong to assume there were not people out there who could mess up burning their TP. Thanks Zeus.

That fucking sucks, and climbing areas are increasingly being visited by more and more people who climb, but are not outdoorsmen. Instead of bitching, go pick it up, and in the future confront anyone that you see littering.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
