Replacing Slings on Cams
|
|
I was wondering if there is any preferred method to replacing "now" ratty slings attached to a cam. I was thinking, could just get the same size pre-sewn runner and girth hitch it. |

You can have them sewn. Fish does this, as does Wired Bliss and a few others. |

If you want to have someone else do the reslinging, I got mine done through Mountain Tools and am very happy with the result. It was $6.50 per cam. More of a review on my blog here. |

Metolius and BD will both resling their cams but not other brands. Metolius did a very nice job on mine, fast turnaround, cleaned and polished the cams and included a bottle of cam lube when they returned them. BD did a nice job too, just not quite as fast on the turnaround. Both companies told me that liability issues prevented them from doing anything to cams that they did not make. |

Girth hitches can lose a lot of strength. There was a similar post before, but I can't recall the name. Better to use a presewn runner doubled up or just sling it by tying some webbing with a water knot, etc..Best option is to go the professional route though. If you're talking about BD C4's they double the webbing around the cams cable to prevent it from failing. |

Wired Bliss will to slings and repairs. Others might only do their own, slings only, or cams newer than 10 years. |

Thanks all for the responses, it really helps give me some clarity on this. |

After perusing all the linked threads I finally sent in a pile of cams to Mountain Tools and just got them back. Just filled out the online form, printed it out, sent everything in the mail, and got them back in two short weeks, which included a holiday. So glad to breath life back into my rack, which included a couple bootied cams, old aliens, and camalot jrs. Fantastic work. |
