Best Climbing within three hours of Chicago?

All right everybody, I've got a question. I want to take some fairly new climbers for a weekend trip out of Chicago. What's the best TR friendly crag within a three hour drive of the Chi? I'm leaning towards either the Lake or Mississippi Palisades. We like quiet and the fewer people the better dig? Camping is good as well.

thanks everybody.

Palisades; Twin Sisters or Sentinel area (with the caveat that I haven't actually climbed at the Palisades or the Lake in decades).

If you go 80-90mph you can make Devils lake in 3 hours from Chicago.

Only other places are Palisades or Upper Limits Climbing Gym...

Palisades is a dump...spend an extra 20 minutes & go to the lake.
- more climbs
- longer routes
- better rock
- more user friendly
- fewer bugs
- better amenities in town & in the park
- etc....

the lake by far is best within the approx 3 non-construction zone hours..or drive an hour south to the XtremePlex climbing gym in Monee IL.

If you're looking for a gym than Vertical Endeavors in Warrenville is probably your best option, otherwise there's the lake which is pretty easy to set up TR anchors along many of the main climbing areas.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
