Hey folks! My wife and I just lucked out and got tickets to see Phish in Telluride this August! So, we were wondering what the camping (free, N'tnl Forest or the likes) situation is there. Thanks for the help!

The closest place for free camping would be Alta Lakes, or up along the Dallas Divide in the National Forest. Alta is probably the closest, and will put you around 10,000ft. If they have camping in the park, like they do for some festivals, that is where I would stay even if it cost $$$. One thing I would not even consider is driving to any campsite outside of town, if you have partaken in any sort of Phish festivities, including drinking. The San Miguel Sheriff's will be out in force, and to get to any free camping you will have to run the guantlet on the one main rd, that will be littered with officers.

So, if you plan on camping outside of town, make sure you are sober, and have nothing on you.

Bummer Scott, my wife threw an epic happy phit when she saw the money out of the credit card. Looks like $60 a head for camping though.. I do hope that it covers both nights.. There is also going to be camping at the high school, not sure how that is going to work... They say "No tobacco" there, it is a school, so anywhere within 1000 feet is a "drug free" zone. Yet they're inviting a bunch of Phished out hippies to camp there... The Sheriff's Dep's are going to have a field day out there... And no, I am certainly not going to attempt to drive the gauntlet of doom, maybe on foot and fungus... But not on wheels..

Yeah right...no "tobacco". If you guys run across an extra I'd be interested!! I've had no luck with Phish lotto in general.

So right after I got my denied email, I checked ebay...$1700 tickets. Snakes. It kills me.

Check out this sweet cabin, deal of the century if it's not good weather or rainy.
