Gear Stolen on 19 JAN 2010

I realize this is my first post, and unfortunately it is not a good post.

On 01/19/2010 my apartment in central NH was broken into, and much of my outdoor gear was stolen. It appears that this individual(s) knows me (and chances are I know them as well), and knows that I have this type of gear at my place. Nothing else was taken nor molested which further leads myself and the authorities to believe that it was someone I know / someone that knows me.

I realize that no one owes me anything - after all, this is my first post, and I have contributed nothing to this site. However, I am a member of a SAR group, specifically AVSAR and use what was taken from me to respond to the calls I receive. I am sure any one of you frequenting this site can relate to the pain and anguish of losing a piece of gear - but having a good portion of your kit relieved from you is just downright painful.

Of what was taken from me, I am listing what can be easily identified or things when seen together may clue in someone as to their potential origin. In general, you can consider most of the stuff a few years old - but in pretty good to excellent condition. I like to take care of my kit. There are a number of things that were 'new' - with tags still on them, things that I had as 'spares'. I'm sure some of you can relate to how a manufacturer makes something really good, then decides to stop making them.

• Integral Designs MK1 XL w/ 2nd door. Green
• Black Diamond First Light
• Marmot Windshirt (M) grey
• Wildthings Half bag, light green
• Wildthings Belay Pants (M)
• Mountain Hardwear Alchemy Jacket (M) green / gray
• Mountain Hardwear Chugach Pants (M) black
• Mountain Hardwear Ethereal Jacket (M), one used, one new w/ tag. Green
• Mountain Hardwear Ethreal Bibs, one (M) used, one new w/tag(S) Black
• Mammut Champ pant Size 46 or 48, dark blue / black
• Cloudveil Ice Floe Gloves (L)
• Cloudveil Ice Floe Bibs (S) new w/ tag, black
• Black Diamond Ice Gloves (L) Grey one used, one new
• Black Diamond Spaceshot2 Headlamp
• Black Diamond Apollo lantern
• Therma Rest pad – Military Tan, New still in wrapper
• SnowPeak Titanium insulated mug 300cc, folding handle
• SnowPeak Giga Stove with Auto Igniter
• Katadyn Pocket water filter
• The North Face Base Camp Duffle XL, black – older model with no daisy chains on the side
• Garmin eTrex Summit (Tan) w/ green neoprene cover
• Silva compass in Military compass case.

I realize not all of these items are unique. But perhaps in combination it could tip someone off, especially at a consignment shop. Also, as some of you familiar with gear may notice, a good portion of the clothing is 'new' - old. Models that are few years old, yet still new with tags.

I sincerely thank everyone for reading - and hopefully someone can provide some assistance in locating some of these pieces of kit. There are things that have sentimental value to me (for example the ID tent...) and would like to get it back, if nothing else, just for that reason.

If you have any information, please feel free to contact me via this thread, or my email - which should be accessible through this site, or contact the investigating police department directly:

Although I have posted on other forums, I am unfortunately not familiar with all of the climbing forums / blogs. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me distribute this list to other sites, or point me to other site that I can distribute this to.

Many thanks in advance,

Serious bummer man, that really blows. I don't know if you posted on these sites but I haven't seen anything on NEClimbs, or NEIce yet. Also, if you haven't already it couldn't hurt sending an email with a list of items to IME and ragged Mountain in North Conway and Plymouth Ski & Sports as they are the major outdoors consignment shops in the region. Best of luck man, and I'll be keeping an ear out for sure.

All I can say is: THAT SUCKS!!!

Spend all that time, effort and money developing an outdoor gear system, just for someone come along a steal it all.

Best of luck finding this a**h*l* and hopfully you will be able to recover your gear.

Taki,

So sorry about your stuff. Just because you have never contributed to MP doesn't mean you are not entitled to help. Quite to the contrary, I'm sure most folks on MP are more than happy to help in whatever way they can. I would recommend that you "bump" this post again on Monday morning so that it gets read by the maximum number of people (i.e. people read MP when they are work, not so much on Friday evening). What I mean by "bumping" is simply post a reply again on Monday morning so that this post get bumped to the top of the pile and shows up on the 'Most recently posted forums' list on the front page of MP.

Best of luck man.

Taki, I am very sorry to hear about your stuff. It's sad to think that something like that could happen in sleepy central New Hampshire. Best of luck. I'll surely keep an eye out.

Thanks everyone for the replies so far - I do have the word out on the more 'local' shops that handles used gear. But in the off chance that the evildoer(s) may travel to offload some of the gear, I'm hoping to reach out to a wider area - you'd never know. Especially being in the area populated by transient university 'kids', one could never tell.

Thanks again, have a great weekend.

Once again, thanks everyone for your feedback so far. I feel at this point, I feel pretty confident that between the authorities and I, we have the local shops covered very well, and have been contacting the shops outside our immediate area into the neighboring states. The one area that I would like to enlist the assistance of the members of this site is that of 'personal sales'. Individual sales that are conducted face - to - face. Clearly there is no way for me to monitor this - so if anyone sees or hears anything that makes you go 'Hmmmm..." please do not hesitate to let me, or the my local PD know.

Many, many thanks,

Taki

Taki: Be sure to check CraigsList for your area and the surrounding areas. You might also post your list of stolen gear on CraigsList.

Best of luck!
