Hi folks, I plan to spend about 10 days climbing and skiing in February. Last year we went to Ouray, it was awesome. I am hesitating to return to this area or to go somewhere else. In your opinion what would be the best area for a combination of ice climbing and ski touring within say 10-15h driving from Boulder? What about Wyoming/Montana? Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Glacier national park in Montana has some of the burliest ice climbing in the country combined with numerous 4,000 ft ski descents. If the avalanche danger is bad, Waterton park is right next door and gets minimal snow (it all blows away). There is little published info on Glacier but almost any named waterfall in the park offers qualty climbing.

+1 to Bozeman. Amazing ice climbing and awesome tours and descents if you're willing to work for it.

Bozone is nice and has sick ice and touring...but what about a 19hour drive to Canmore, Alberta! Why mess around when you can go all the way to the best?

Golden. Rogers Pass is nearby, and, you have some of the best ice anywhere. Otherwise, hard to beat Canmore. Toss out a few more... Silvergate/Cooke City, MT. Not bad touring up on the Beartooth Hwy and some neat stuff in Jellystone too. Critters. Hot springs. Plenty of ice for climbing. Rock Dodge, uhh, I mean Red Lodge, MT. Or Roscoe. Other side of the Beartooth Hwy and access to the East and West Rosebud, Stillwater, etc. Not sure the ski touring is as good but, plenty of ice. Cody? Not sure the ski touring is that great...but, has to be some nearby. Darby, MT. Lost Trail has pretty good skiing. Hot springs. If the ice is in, the Bitterroots can abide. Not a long trip to the Missions for a day or two either. I would mention Salt Lake but I hear both the ice and skiing aren't very good there...(ha ha). Just depends on how much town you need. Bozeman is a pretty fun hang. Cheers!
