Beer at Muralla Grande

OK, I don't know who did it but some @$$ clowns left a crap load of beer cans at the top of Second Coming. There was also a broken bottle or two as well. Also at the base of Lawyers, Guns and Money there were a bunch of used tape gloves (3 or 4 pairs) and some PowerBar wrappers.
WHILE I might be able to blame the beer cans at the top to some transient hikers, the gloves at the bottom are clearly climbers. PLEASE PLEASE keep our climbing areas clean. Pack out more than what you pack in. All the cans and glass have been removed and the tape gloves disposed of.

Wow. Really sorry to hear that. I would agree that its possible that the beer was not climbers....the nice meadow area above muralla is a nice place to sit and look out over the desert for climbers and non-climbers alike. The tape gloves and power bars are pretty infuriating though. Thanks for picking stuff up.

Here's another nice surprise.

When I find trash up in those areas it always suprises me. I was up there on Saturday and on my way over to Clandestine wall from Muralla Grande my client found a beer bottle. I took a good look around and saw more trash. I think it is just kids following the climbing trails to the little meadows.
Last fall I was headed over to License and a Visa on Pino wall. Right when I got to where you make your way to the rap station I ran into a pile of 6-8 beer bottles. That had me curious due to that area is so hard to find. I hope that this does not start to become a problem.

I wish I could blame this one on hikers or someone other than climbers but this was found at the Bottom of Muralla Grande near Lawyers Guns and Money. I've been out there nearly every other day for the past couple of weeks so I know this CRAP has only been stewing for a day or 2 at most. I'm more than willing to pack this crap out as I do this anywhere I go already, but this behavior by other (and I truly hope it's not locals) climbers cannot be tolerated. DON'T TRASH OUR MOUNTAIN!!!
PS: I dragged that stinking pile up four pitches to dispose of it.

I think I know the one that your talking about. If memory serves it was roughly a 1/4 mile past where the trail junctions to the Del Agua Overlook right? I was hiking there on Monday and saw it. That one was disposed of as well. Didn't make an issue of that one cause it could have easily been hikers. If it's not the same one, well crap, that's a lot of poop bags

I spend a lot of time out there as I've already mentioned. Between riding my motorcycles up the Crest, hiking the trails or climbing I'm there typically about 4-5times a week. I guess I notice these things more because I'm there so often. Your probably more "local" than I am George. Besides this is NM, a much more cohesive group than say AZ (Bolt wars, seriously????)

I guess there's another lesson to take away from these observations. If there's this much non-climber hiking/drinking/poo-ing traffic in these relatively obscure areas off the Crest trail system, we may do well to be careful where we cache our packs (with spare gear, keys, phone, wallets, etc.) at the tops of some of these crags while we're gone all day on the climb.

The trash sucks because I have rarely seen much of it in the Sandias (except for the climber that left that huge milk jug at the base of the Clandestine Wall).

Every time I see this thread title I keep thinking someone is suggesting some climbers get together to drink beer on top of the Muralla. Having already got snookered there at 10 am during a long-ago wedding, I recommend the idea to anyone provided you pack out your trash.

Well done Supra for carrying out other folks trash. Who still eats Powerbars? That is so early nineties and went out with anorexia and the Euro death knot.

I like your thinking Will:) But we gotta invite DisturbingThePeace. Anybody out there interested in getting hammered at the top of Muralla Grande??? I'll leave the rest to you Will:)

A drinking fest at the top of Muralla Grande sounds great! I was at the Anvil yesterday and picked up some budwieser cans very near the top. Man what is going on? These features do not have clear trails to get to them and they do not seem like they get many hikers going to them. Its just crazy!

Kudos Supra for the cleanup. And I'm there with you on the frustrations surrounding this issue. My wife opened the trunk to our car where i have been storing bags from trash cleanup runs in my local area and gagged. Boy did she tear me a new one. Ahhh... eau de stale beer cans/bottles baking in Arizona heat. I can never remember to empty them out of there when i get home. Ack!! :p

Haha! I made that mistake one too many times when I was living in Tempe.

That makes two of us, Nate. Indeed kudos to you, Supra, for packing that shit out.

Attacked by a mountain lion and with only a scratch! How often does that happen?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
