We're considering a trip to the Cirque in early August. Anyone been there lately for a bug report? Thanks.

We were in the Cirque of the Towers last year in early August and it was pretty buggy - we used a lot of DEET.

Just got back from the cirque. Left a day early as the mosquitos were a bit crazy if you aren't climbing or moving around- if it's not too windy. My non-climber brother was eaten alive in spite of deet. next time we will bring mosquito net masks in addition to deet.

I was there 3rd week of August last year, bugs pretty much a non-issue! We did get snowed on however. I would take a little snow over a zillion mosquitos. If you can wait a couple of weeks you may catch a break as we did last year.

If you have never been to the Cirque prepare to be impressed, it is stunning and the climbing spectacular.

The bugs in the Winds are generally unbearable in July. It seems that over a 10 year period I forget how bad they are and go again in July and regret it. Early August is probably a bit better and I have gone in late August and have seen no bugs at all. In early August I would go, but still take plenty of bug spray, especially this year.

The first hard freeze usually happens around mid-august give or take, which takes care of the little vampires. Early august I would bring lots of deet and a head net so you can enjoy yourself outside your tent. It's fun trying to eat with a few dozen mosquitos buzzing around.

Co-worker just got back and said the bugs were so bad they cut their trip short by a day. FYI, he's from Louisiana...

The fishing however, was excellent. No word on the snowpack.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
