Space Shuttle Mission: STS-125

There's a special set of shuttle missions going on at NASA.

Atlantis is heading to the Hubble to do some service work. On standby is Endeavour set for a rescue should Atlantis have problems, such as what faced Columbia.

Aboard Atlantis are two notable characters. One is already reported, a Top Gun pilot, Scott Altman who is mission Commander (he "established relations" in the movie Top Gun). The other is Astronaut John Grunsfeld, a technical climber he will be taking a Mtn Rescue Assoc. patch on mission; hopefully he won't have to use it. Something else quite notable about this as well, from Charlie Shimanski MRA Pres. & Former AAC Pres.:

In addition, John is taking the infamous Zeiss Camera that Bradford Washburn used to photograph Mt. McKinley. Through an association at the American Alpine Club, Grunsfeld and Washburn became good friends before Washburn died just a few years ago. John plans to take many images of earth using the camera that Washburn used while hanging out of K2's "Beaver" at 24,000 feet with the door open. John assured me although he wishes he could, he will not be able to open the door of Atlantis to use the camera in the true Washburn style.

Amazing -- Good Luck!
