Avoid Wilcox at all cost! It is a true S#!t Hole!

I know that there is property going for very cheap on the east side, but that it can be in a sketchy area. When I was climbing there a couple years ago, a guy (climber) who had a cabin there actually let us housesit, because he was so worried about it getting broken into.

I'd have to second Bisbee. It has lots of rock in the vicinity, some of which may be good. Coffee is great and the huge hole in the ground will make a great lake someday.

Ask Daryl Allen as he lives in Sierra Vista. I think if you plan to climb 50 routes a year in the Stronghold you will be done with it pretty quick. Not always easy to get partners during the week. Tell me if I am wrong Daryl, Meghan. Vail or the east side of Tucson gets you closer to Tucson and all the climbing around it as well as a short drive to the Stronghold. Now if you are going to put routes up there you can probably live the rest of your life there.

Eric is spot on. Definitely consider the Vail area. Sierra Vista is a decent place to live but it's a fairly small town and the wife and i make rather frequent trips to hit up places like Cosco, BB&Beyond, certain Dr's offices, etc... South Tucson puts you within 1.5hr drive of the Stronghold.

Only a few climbers down here but i know of lots of people that make the commute from Tucson to climb down here and seldom hear any complaining about the drive. EFR also hit a good point; that is, locating yourself down here puts you within a short drive of the stronghold but Tucson folks have more options with <2hr drive than us. IOW, locating yourself down here at the Stronghold obviously pushes several other [sometimes much cooler] options further out of reach.

The only other options for climbing near SV are The Dry, Twin Buttes (good for training beginners - not much else) and some small undocumented areas that aren't much to rave about. Manny also touched on Bisbee... and, yes, there are several undeveloped bluffs down there. I've hiked up to them but haven't looked into access so i can't help much there. Don't get me wrong.. it's always nice to get more potential partners in the area but we're just offering up some [as unbiased as possible] advice. =)
