What do you Use MP for?

I would like to take a survey of our users to see what people primarily use MP for. In other words, do you primarily log onto MP to post route info/updates, and/or do you log onto MP to get route beta/info for crags/areas you want to visit but are too frugel to buy the guide for? Or do use MP to satify both purposes?

2. fantasize about stuff I will probably never see, visit or climb
3. share cool stuff that I have done
4. make snarky comments I later delete

in order of what I would like to think is my frequency of intended use, although actual use might look different at any time.

- Check any updates on the forums
- Browse through photos from across the world (which is the best time-waster)
- Check for updates in areas I climb in
- Check out events in my area
- Research new areas to visit (or dream about visiting)
- Post some photos, routes, and areas every couple of months

Don't think MP has replaced any guidebook sales. If anything checking out a new area makes me buy a guidebook for that area for reference and then to use MP to gain further beta or stoke.

2) Read the forum
3) Look for new areas to explore
4) Kill time at work (wishing I was somewhere else)
5) Get bata
6) Add routes
7) Enjoy the time I spend here :)

Torcher myself by living vicariously thru the website and being somewhat thankful that I did a lot of climbing in the 90's up until last year. Soon that will change and I will get back on the rock, then next winter back on ice!

Route Database:
I buy guidebooks, but not all of them. I'll usually browse the database for stuff the first time I visit an area, and then I can buy the guidebook if I want to return often. Guidebooks get outdated fast these days, with all of the first ascents happening...

Community:
On days I can't climb, why not look at pictures of climbing, plan a roadtrip, read some gear reviews, or just B.S. about politics? The events calendars and Partner Finder are great tools too.

Beta, networking. I like everything about MountainProject, especially the friendly folk, admin. and such.

To reassure myself there are intelligent climbers out there after reading RC.com posts.
