I prefer the Metolius curved hexes. I like the way they place and also the stiff wires instead of the slings.

I haven't actually used them, but I think I would prefer them to the Metolious curved hexes. I find that the wires on the Metolious hexes get in the way of the camming action, especially on the smaller sizes. I have the old slung Black Diamond hexes, so maybe I'm just used to slings instead of wires. Either way, they are lighter than cams and work well in convoluted cracks. Great for belays where you want to save your cams for the next pitch.

I have the sizes 5-9 and love them. I know it is personal preference but I love the sling. Since the sizes I have cover large fingers and bigger, I can easily hold the body of the hex while I place it. I can, however, see the utility of a wired hex in the smaller sizes, which is where I choose to used nuts. I often carry these as doubles for my cams and have been able to find solid placements where the curved sides provide great surface contact which locked the hex in place. I also like the fact that with the exception of the #9 the color coding is the same as my camalots i.e. a green hex is about the same size as my green C4 etc.
