Sam Lightner, Jr. wrote:Ken, if I say spic in East L.A., I probably w ill get my ass kicked. However, if I say it to Carlos Mencia he will probably make a big joke out of me.... again, "MIGHT" was the operative word. I wish we could get Daniel to change this thread name to Idealists vs. Pragmatists. So which represents the Idealist, and which, the Pragmatist - using my examples of certain neighborhoods, and your example of Carlos Mencia? Just curious.

You're just pulling this shit out of thin air. I expected more from you, Sam. Make sure to tuck that tail in before you run. You've exposed enough ass in the last two posts. BTW, I wouldn't have asked the question if I weren't interested in your answer.

Ken, idealistically you're pragmatic:)....seriously though, from most of the posts I've read from you, you fall pretty far on to the pragmatist scale...it's not black and white, but I'd say you lean that direction, more logical and listening to both sides (even if you don't believe in both sides) rather than the idealist, carrying the banner for your cause to the bloody end.

The idealism of today is the pragmatism of tomorrow. (eyes rolling)

I think that's a fair assessment. No bloody banners in this camp, although no shortage of battle scars. I have no problem with Idealism as long as it isn't confused with reality. I think a measured dose of it helps to keep us striving toward a better civilization.

My tail isn't tucked, I'm just bored with this. PRRose, Your probably right about the kids. I dont have any so I rarely think of kids as sitting and reading this forum. Since they probably do, faggot probably isn't the best word for them... However, Stan and Kyle use words like that, but they don't act like Cartman. Have we made 11 pages yet?

I would like to believe that reducing or eliminating the use of slurs might have a positive effect on the problem of bigotry and prejudice (I'm an idealist!). Indeed, it might, at least in some individual cases (starting to waver). But as a general characteristic across the entire human species, the problem will never go away because the tendency to distrust or dislike others who are not like yourself is probably a deep-seated evolutionary adaptation, hard-wired if you like (I'm a pragmatist!). Although I find it fascinating (OK, that's a stretch), I've mostly opted out of this discussion because the answer has been expressed by other posters implicitly and explicitly at least several times: thoughts, words, and even actions are relevant only to the context in which they occur. Most people who are stupid enough to read this thread wouldn't give a second thought to the use by the OP of the word "faggotism", myself included, recognizing that its use was not intended as a slur to homosexuals, but to the bundlers of sticks who he thought were negligent. But use that word in a different context
Unbelievably, Nelson and Mitchell have been closest to getting it correct all along: were all right. Sheesh. Whats the world coming to?

Shane Neal wrote: Well, from this post, as well as your first, its clear you spend more time on the computer using a keyboard as an engine to run your big mouth for the purpose of personal satisfaction, than you do climbing. Which, would make you the one displaying yourself in a "flurry of faggotism". :) More like a "blizzard of ultraquasiOedipuscomplexfaggotism". Touche' there Good Sir. :) So, since I, unlike you, actually climb more than I debate and insult people as well as start pointless posts that are ran off emotion and the need for a "waaaaambulance" alone, I will close with this, as my belayer awaits.... If it was as big as deal to you as you've made it to be in this post- you shoulda been man and patient enough to wait for them to return to their car, so that you could of used you expansive dictionary of words on them, surely making them grovel, thus forcing them to buy you a case of beer AND a new helmet.(That though, would have required balls and not just a big mouth, so, I understand why you vented on the internert instead. Its called "manginaism" Plus, they would have just kicked your ass). Also, if you are truly as wordly and wordly as you seem to think you are- you would have posted in a manner that would have actually sent a message warranting a response- not just created the most hillarious and drama filled post this side of the Mississippi. So really, your "fuckery" of a post was really just a bunch of "bitchasswhiningBScuzImtooscared2actuallyconfrontthemMandrama". (Please check ur dictionary cuz Im not sure thats a real word...???) So, now that I have fully vented as well, and LAUGHED my ass off doing it, lololololololol, I do want to thank for starting all this- good job on creating this "fuckery of a stigmata"!!!! lololol Yes, and as Bob D' said- you are all... well, WE are all meterosexual for partaking in(Daniels) "faggotism". Im off to climb, hello Red rocks... Climb Hard. Climb Safe. L8R LMAO :) Yes Shane, delerious, post-concussion, and bleeding I would have probably been small enough to resort to physical violence and certainly get my ass kicked. Seeing that the hospital was somewhere my girlfriend wanted me to be near should things get worse I was unavailable to wait for the offending party to decend and hike out (find a new way to call me a coward Mr. Man). Education of head injuries is something you may want to immerse yourself in sometime Shane, it could save you or your partner's life. Wish I were half the man you are Shane, you are so tough.
