Man, Phil - i would love to run either of those out with you. But i'm on daddy duty tomorrow. I just got in from a day spent training a guy out there. The campground at Isle of You is still very much wide open. Only one group was set up with two tents.

We met a couple from Alaska that had done Moby Dick yesterday and Rabbits Feat this morning. It was funny because i asked them if they brought any beans and they were like "uh...no but we found bees" (see other post). I explained to them about beanfest and they were blown away to have missed it by one day. I encouraged them to hang around another day for it but they said they had to move on. They're on a climbing roadtrip.

Anyways, i'll be out there tomorrow in spectator mode with my daughter taking pictures and possibly squeezing in a quick climb or two.

OH!!, i almost forgot. If you see some crazy old guy in a blue Polaris two seater little buggy cart thing on Middlemarch road, slow down around him but DON'T STOP. He's barking mad. We were just riding back and this guy chased us down and started yelling at us to pull over and stop. He got right on the side of our truck and was shouting at us like a looney. We called 911 and met the local deputy down at the end of the road to explain what happened. The thing is, we weren't speeding or anything. The speed limit is 35 and you can't really do much more than that without demolishing your suspension; we were going maybe 30 max when we went by him. Looks like some old retiree just looking for drama,... the deputy agreed this was the case.

Just a heads up... see you all there!!

wow - what a nut! just FYI - if he offers you candy, don't take it from him.

hope to see you all down there!

Hey again guys, looks like me and Brooke will be hittin up "Mystery of the Desert' on Muttonhead tomorrow hopefully; should be fun, stoked to see you all back at the Isle of You campground tomorrow night for the festivities... and BTW that's a crazy story there Daryll about that senile psycho in the go-ped.... damn old people taking over Arizona! Haha... at least you were able to resolve thing's diplomatically in the end though. Thank god he wasn't a climber or you could have gotten a lecture not only on driving but on tri-cam placements, the evils of rap-bolting, superiority of brass rp's and wooden chocks over modern pro, ect... Haha all in good fun... see y'all down there this weekend!
peace,
Phil.

so how was it?

Daryl Allan · · Sierra Vista, AZ · Joined Sep 2006 · Points: 1,041

Jon, i thought you were going(??). It was good, i had to bail at around 3pm and i really didn't get to meet anyone before doing so. I was hoping to establish some climbing partners and match faces to names. Unfortunately, keeping up with my 2yr old consumed most of my time. Seems like the turnout wasn't near as strong as last year though. Maybe someone that stayed the night can elaborate on how the games and night activities went...

Thanks Jason! It was nice to meet you. I had a good time. I appreciate all the work you did. I could see you worked very hard. The food and games were excellent. I think serving breakfast was a first. Thanks again!

about 50 or so people showed this year. unfortunately I passed out shortly after the human foose ball started, around 10:00 pm. The food was great and the breakfast was a surprise. Who won the prizes and what were they?

Thanks Jason, I had a hell of a night. Heck, it looked like all were having a great time. I think even the non-virgins were getting beaned at one point. The tug-o-war was pretty freggin funny.

Due tell on the prizes and lanterns...

Thanks all that came to this years Spring 2008 Beanfest. It couldn't have been a more seamless operation. Wish I could have had more contestants for the games. Had some pretty sweet prizes for the games. Thank You Summit Hut, and Rocks and Ropes for the prizes. I pretty much gave out the the prizes to the people who played the games. Had a few quick draws from Black Diamond, an Omega Pacific multi-cam, Rock Rings, and a 1 month R&R membership. I also have to thank Carlitta for the taco's, Jeffers, Gerry, Heather, Joshua for the shredded BBQ beef, Cyler for his artistic work on the shirts, and Mary for helping with the food, and baked goods. If you want to get in touch with Cyler about his shirts. He is still selling them at the price of 10.00 short sleeved and 12.00 long sleeved. You may cantact me on here or you may contact him directly at cyler_varnum@yahoo.com. It wouldn't have happened with any of these people. If you see them please complement them for their hard work. I don't want to be discouraging about this it was a fun ordeal, and it was rewarding to have the time to do it. I am in the hunt for the next Bean Master. I still haven't had the opportunity for handing the crown to the next Bean Master. If there are any takers, and/or anyone who you think may want to do it. Please PM me with that contact information. Again thanks for coming out.

I have some action photos of a group of folks climbing at Trad Rock on Saturday. The group was, i believe, 2 or three girls and a couple guys. One girl in the group had a leopard print chalk bag. I can email them over... just let me know.

You da man Jason. It was fun. Foosball was ridiculous. Sorry I couldn't set up the chair game but our stuck rope was a pain in the ass on Saturday.

See you at the gym.
