whaddaya say those damn things find their own home in a GEAR REVIEW SECTION, rather than take up the entire first page of this forum thread list?

WTF?

at least consolidate them into their own thread somewhere.

If you want to be obnoxious about it you could always go back to posting at rockclimbing.com.

Oh, I haven't given up on that place yet. I just happened to be annoyed here one too many times at something i'm sure y'all have already become accustomed to.

Let me relate to you a frog story:

Place a frog in a cool pan of water, then turn the heat on low. The frog will become accustomed to it, even as the water reaches the point that it becomes deadly. Then it will die. OTOH, if you just plain drop a frog into boiling water, it will immediately attempt to jump out, knowing that the situation is rapidly becoming dire.

Can you see the connection, or should I spell it out in a little more detail for ya?

I'm just sayin... ;)

Gear reviews will have their own home by March (hopefully!). Placing them in the Forum is an interim place.

I appreciate the feedback,
Andy

perhaps, but the point remains the same.

too, why is the quote feature on this site so persnicketty?

It appears written properly in the editor window, but does not paginate properly in the preview window, nor in the thread posting.

is there an exterminator in the forum?

figured that one out. weird though how I tried to quote the entire post above, but it automatically dropped the first quote.

Oh, what I figured out was that when the last word before the ending quote you are quoting is a link, if it bumps up to the ending quote tag, you've gotta add a space between the end of the link and the /quote tag, else it doesn't seem to pick up that one is starting a new thought. Nor does it retain the original paragraph/spacing formatting from the OP.

To the Site Admin:

It may take me a while to get used to posting here, all the little nuances 'n what-not. If you'd rather just ignore my "bug" claims, feel free to. If I notice something, but point it out with little clarity, feel free to ask for more info.

Andy, the news flashes are a good idea. On the right hand side of the home page I would move the calender of events (Upcoming Events) to the top of the column, make that larger, & with more events listed.

I personally would like to see free beer coupons scattered about the pages.

still, nothing's been done about the first page being fill3d up with sticky's.

is there actually some progress being made on this issue?

WTF?

over.

Stymingerfink,

WTF!!!

Yes, there is progress being made, but sometimes you have to be patient. We all have day jobs as well.

This issue regarding gear reviews has been discussed among admins for some time, and unfortunately there isn't a quick fix. Andy stated above that he hoped to have this implemented by March (hopefully). It's only the 11th so please give us a little bit of breathing space.

There are improvements made the site on a regular basis (a lot you don't see) and there is a wish list that is being worked on. The site is a collaborative effort with a lot of people keeping the wheels turning.

Your comments don't really encourage me to put extra hours into the site, when I could be climbing instead. If you wanted to piss off site volunteers, then you did a pretty good job.

you mean they don't even warrant their own forum?

why's that?

Stymingersfink · · Unknown Hometown · Joined Aug 2006 · Points: 1,035

i mean... if nothing else, disable the sticky on those subjects and let them sink to the bottom just like everything else.

if the manufacturers wish to sponsor their own topics, perhaps they will re-imburse "you" if that's what it takes to motive "you" volunteers to keep the thread on the top of the list.

otherwise, why not just let them die a lonely death as any other thread might?

huh?

Stymingersfink:

Writing a good gear review is a hell of a lot more work than just sitting down at the keyboard for five minutes and posting some random thoughts to start a new thread. Both John and Josh have worked very hard to produce some excellent gear reviews.

Eventually, Gear Reviews will have their own space. This will likely be implemented later this month, as Andy has mentioned. If I had the power to create a new forum for them, I would. But I don't. It's up to Andy to implement this, and he's off on a trip right now.

So for the interim, Gear Reviews will remain sticky. They deserve more visibility than a regular thread. Sorry if it bothers you, but that's the way it is.

Personally, I find your comments abrasive and offensive to people who have worked very hard to make this site what it is. Your suggestions would be better received if they were expressed in a more constructive way. Rule #1: Don't be a jerk.

I am on a trip until next week. When I return I will, at a minimum, put the gear reviews in their own forum.

I've created a gear review forum and moved all the existing sticky reviews.

mountainproject.com/v/climb…

Thanks for your patience.

No doubt!

Sty,
Keep yelling at the admins. You're doing a great job. Everyone really appreciates all the work you've put into this site. I mean without you, this place would not be the best climbing site on the net. It certainly has nothing to do with the 1000s of hours that the admins have put in...

PS. In case you don't know, typing in ALL CAPS is considered shouting on the Internet.

I'm kinda favoring the separate section for the sticky reviews. SORRY GUYS !!!!

I made a quick comment before -- I'd like to see the calender of events (Upcoming Events) expanded on, maybe a month out & brought to the top of the frame to see more events when I look at the homepage. I already know my favorite areas & additions in these areas are cool, but the events are probably more what I look for.

OK?!?!??!? (Is this shouting? Ooops, my bad)
