Rock fall this weekend (9/1/07)

Does anyone know the curcumstances of the rock fall this weekend (LCC or BCC). where, who got hit, what happened, are they OK ?

Also- A buddy and myself remove the two cams in the coffin crack a couple of weeks ago.

One has been their for about 20 years and nothing but the cam head was left.

The other has been their for about 10-15 years and belive it or not I have got it working again. I thought it would be neat to hear about the day it got stuck and return it to the owner. If anyone has any information post it here. Thanks.

Hey there is a link Cam stuck at the crux on Satans corner I tried for about ten minutes on Thursday to get it out but didn't have the right tool. Maybe you can give this one a go too. Behind the link cam is a very old forged friend that has been there for years. This is the 4th link cam I have seen stuck in a year.

Found a bunch of gear and eye glasses at the bottom of Beckey's Monday morning, figure someone got hurt and bailed off it?? Don't know if it was rock fall or?

Sfotex, someone did get hurt there; I know a person on SAR who went up Sun night to help. I don't know for sure, but from what I heard the person who fell is in ok condition (doesn't sound like they had any spinal, or head injuries, or really serious fractures). Anyway, if you have the gear you should hold on to it, untill someone contacts you with a description.

An active local climber was injured on Ridge of Bliss in LCC while rappelling. Once on the ground they attempted to pull their rope which became stuck. After a hard tug several very large rocks were dislodged and he was struck in the face by a volleyball-sized rock and is lucky to be alive. However, he is pretty beat up and will require surgery and the best wishes and support of the community. Due to patient confidentiality laws I can't say more.

Like many of us, I'm always alert to accidents, with the hope of learning something to increase safety. I wasn't familiar wih Ridge of Bliss, so looked it up. It's not on the same side of the canyon as Beckey's. Was it another route instead? Just curious.

Hope the person involved is well supported and recovering. Rockfall is scary.

There was an accident involving rock fall on Ridge of Bliss and another different accident on Beckey's...

2 accidents...not a good week-end. Any info on what happened on Beckey's and how the person is doing?

If that is an Orange Link Cam, it is my friends. I tried to get it out for an hour with no luck. If anyone can get it out, I'm sure he would like it back. Thanks!
