Featured Trad, Sport, Bouldering, and other popular climbing routes and climbing areas Alpena, Michigan.
Old limestone quarry facing east. Very chossy with lots of fossils. Cliff ranges from 15-35', with the majority of it less than 30'. The face of the quarry is huge, but most of it isn't worth climbing. There is potential for development here, but it doesn't seem to see a lot of traffic and any development would require a substantial commitment due to the chaos factor. Primarily, there are two good sections of cliff face in the 30-35' range, closer to the southeast end of the quarry. Most lines in this quarry have substantial rockfall potential (think 5' tall death blocks) and it is strongly recommended to rappel and knock down lose rock if intending to lead anything. 12 miles north of Alpena. Take the 23 north until you see a sign for Rockport State Recreation Area and take that right. Follow the dirt road for a couple miles. The face of the quarry is about a 20 min walk
