The Auld Wall is a cement/stone retaining wall located along Black Creek in the Village of Belfast, New York. Climbing in Western New York requires some creativity - The Auld Wall serves as a fine example of that. As of June, 2022 there are no bolted routes - As a majority of the climbing available is sport, with one wide, off-width crack providing a chaucy trad experience. However, there are trees that grow tall behind the wall offering great top-rope anchors. As of June, 2022 there is only one route on The Auld Wall - “Whiskey Fists”, which was established in the early part of the month, There is however, room for growth, and potential for a half-dozen other routes to be established! The Auld Wall is located along Black Creek - A short ways up creek from where Gleason Hill Rd. splits off of Route 19.The best way to access The Auld Wall is to drive up Gleason Hill Rd. - You can park off to the side about a 1/4 mile up on the left - Directly across from the beginning of a big pond, right next to a sign warning of a stop where Gleason Hill Rd. meets 19.This is the best place to park as, you won’t be offending anyone, and also it puts you on track to the fastest approach to The Auld Wall.Next to the sign across from the big pond on Gleason Hill Rd. - There’ll be a small down-hill to Black Creek, you should be able to see the wall from there -Walk down into the sumac trees follow a small deer path/bush-wack a short ways until you get to the creek,You can either meander around until you find a shallow shelf to cross, or just cross the creek and get to the wall.
An aesthetic little boulder with a prominent arete like a ship's bow. A couple of easier problems live here. The stand alone boulder smack in the middle of "Lichen Wall" and "Main Attraction"
the largest boulder, awesome picnic ledge situation on top, big and flat, easily accessed, most climbs can be top roped easily all 4 sides have climbs continue along the trail past the campfire boulder, scramble behind for climbs on the backside
