Description Suggest change

While Flag Mountain is not the 'official' name of this apparently unnamed crag, it has been referred to as such by locals and visitors for many years. Evidence of this is the summit register, titled 'Flag Mountain', with entries going back to 2003, including a 2005 entry by Herb and Jan Conn. Flag Mountain has a long, low-angle east face, which is how most folks access the summit. There is evidence, however, that some route exploration on its steeper faces has been done in the past, but the first developed and recorded routes occurred in 2026.

Getting There Suggest change

Drive 3 miles east of Custer on Highway 16A, then turn left on America Center Road. Travel 3.6 miles up the ACR, to an obvious fence gate on the left side of the road, where the Paha Sapa Trail intersects said road. Go through the gate (always leave it closed), and hike the Paha Sapa Trail for about 15 minutes, and the crag will be on the right.
