Description
If you like aretes and slab bouldering, you’ll dig it. Its namesake is the volcanic Corkscrew dike system to the northwest, syenite and rhyolite dikes of the same Summerford Mountain Sill are scattered throughout the Dona Ana Mountains. The rock is characterized by thin crimps, scarce jugs, occasional pockets, lots of aretes, and a general lacking of feet. The somewhat dispersed boulder field feels adventurous, if thats what you seek. Most of the problems are easy, but there's a handful of really cool looking, likely very difficult lines. If you have historic info or beta, then please share!
The trailhead is becoming more popular with the encroachment of nearby neighborhoods and increased popularity of OHVs, and it is often trashed. Be a peach and bring a trash bag.
Getting There
A brief hike leads you to the majority of the boulders, right beneath Checkerboard (same approach). A handfull of boulders are located near the parking areas. The two areas are lumped together based on the access point. The boulders to the south of the parking areas have decent looking lines but are inundated with cow shit.
