Description
Realization Slabs have an easy, beginner scramble on southeast-facing slab that melts off quickly in the winter. It is a great addition to hikes and trail runs in the area. There is one committing move right off the ground. After that, a 3rd Class route is possible to the top. For more fun, keep walking up the summit road, and find more rock to scramble, or climb easy boulder problems on the way to the Ute Trail, and take that back to Realization Point.
Getting There
Park at Realization Point on Flagstaff Road. On foot, head south down towards Gregory Canyon and Ranger Trails, and almost immediately you'll see a gravel road heading to the left (east). This road is lined on the corner with CCC built rock guard rails. At the end of the road is a silver gate. From the gate, carefully cross the road and walk to the slabs. The best place to get on is at twin pine trees directly across the road from a 20mph sign.
