Description Suggest change

Great summer bouldering spot with gobs of interesting rock scattered throughout the woods. Almost entirely forested, with northern exposure, and clocking in around 9300 feet. This is a great spot to beat the summer heat elsewhere in Southern Arizona.

Quality compact granite, dreamy slab, textured faces, and clean splitter cracks are the name of the game at Stone Gardens. One or two pads is just fine for most areas

Quick approaches for most of the boulders means that you can drag a pad around and climb a plethora of rock without ever being far from your car. Many more hidden problems hide in the woods just out of sight, hidden under branches and lichen.

Unless your a Safford/Willcox local, it's probably a good idea to plan an overnight…the drive is about 3 hours one-way from Tucson.

Getting There Suggest change

-Take the Swift Trail Junction road (This is the main road up Mt Graham) off of Hwy 191 near Safford.
-From the junction set the trip meter in your car to 0.0 and keep driving until you get to mile 31, this is just after a large meadow with a plaque called Chesley Flats.
-At Mile 31 look for a right turn marked by a small '4522' and 'Fire Warning' sign…this is about 1/4 mile past Chesley Flats. There's a little pullout that can fit a few cars. If you have a smaller car with low clearance this would be a good place to park… 10 minute walk to Camp #2.

-If you have high clearance, continue another 1/4 mile up this rough little road, passing dispersed Camp #1. Park at the large dispersed Camp #2 just after a clearing. ~5 minute drive off of Swift Trail Rd.

Most of the boulders are an easy 5 minute walk from Camp #2
