Description

Mammoth is a small but quality crag located in North Chickamauga Creek Gorge State Park (North Chick, as the locals call it). It has long been known in certain circles, but is now officially an approved, publicly accessible climbing area thanks to the SCC/Access Fund and the new park management. The crag is stacked with a number of test pieces on some exceptional Chattanooga stone.

As with all state managed climbing areas, make sure to follow all the posted rules and be a good representative for the climbing community. North Chick is a special place and we should all do our part to take care of it.

Getting There

Park at the main parking lot for North Chickamauga Creek Gorge State Park off Montlake Road before starting to climb Mowbray Mountain. Coordinates here: maps.app.goo.gl/mJiGUt2gbz2…

Hike up the main trail and take your first right on the Upper Hogskin Loop Trail. Once you gain the old road bed, take a left and walk for about a mile on your way to Stripmine Falls. Just before Stripmine Falls, look back over your right shoulder for a climber trail that takes you to the cliff. The first buttress you come to is the Waymaker Wall.
