Description Suggest change

This is a new area with lots of potential. Not everything has been climbed and there was no evidence that anyone has climbed out there before. So get out there and get some FA’s! Secluded backwoods limestone bouldering inside Pictured Rocks County Park. The two distinct walls are “Heat Stroke Roof” & “Camo slight overhang.” Both walls provide excellent movement on pocketed & striking limestone. Lots of potential for hard bouldering and the approach may be a little bit of a quest but you will be rewarded for your efforts!

Getting There Suggest change

Starting in the Pictured Rocks parking lot head north towards “Windy Point.” The hike is 1.7 miles one way with crossing the Maquoketa River so plan accordingly to cross a river and pay attention to water levels. (Water transportation is an option but usually can be crossed on foot/use waders or bring swimwear & towels). Follow along the standard trail that takes you out to Windy Point, but where the property fence stops going north and turns to the left, head west along the river bend on top of ridge. Continue following a trail that will lead you through a couple gullies and eventually drop you down off the ridge and start heading back to the NE. Approach the river and find your route. There’s a large sandbar that is generally visible and easy to access. Head directly north across the river finding shallow water and using sand bars. Once crossed over to the north side of the river head slightly NW towards a drainage and follow the trail along rock faces and boulders until you run into the “Heat Stroke Wall.”

Camo Wall - From the top out trail of the heat stroke wall head west and follow along small rock faces until you pass blue limestone on your right and you will run into the Camo Wall shortly afterwards. (1 min approach from heat stroke). Facing the heat stroke wall you can hike out to the right, go up and around another boulder and follow along a barbed wire fence on the right.
