Description
The Roadside Crag is bound to be an adventurous and beginner to intermediate climber paradise. The approach is as short or shorter than many classic climbs at the well know Sandrock AL. It is visible from the road the entire way to the park office and campground when approached from the south. There are numerous intermediately graded climbs with potential for many more. However, don't be scared away if you are the leader of more difficult climbs, this area will be home to more difficult climbs in the near future as more development is finished.
The rock is quite solid with many starts having a conglomerate base section that transforms into classic Alabama sandstone higher up the cliffs. The only downside is that the cliff has a fair amount of discontinuous features. If one can look past these aesthetics and focus on the expectation of beginner to intermediate training grounds in a remote setting you will have a blast here. There is something for everyone from the aspiring sport climber, trad climber, and even a scattering of solid boulders waiting to be climbed by those with the Alabama Wild Man Spirit.
