Description Suggest change

Tash’s Lookout has about 5 routes total and is a mix of trad, sport, and toprope lines. The routes are overall short - anywhere from 25 to 40 feet long. The area is overall nice, though it has a good amount of lichen. Bringing a brush is not necessary, though it may be a good idea. It is east-facing and gets sun in the morning until about 2 pm or 3 pm. It usually has about a 15 minute approach.

Getting There Suggest change

From Laramie, take I-80 towards Cheyenne to the Happy Jack Highway exit, and take Happy Jack Highway towards Curt Gowdy State Park. Take a left on Forest Road 701, then the road immediately splits. Take the right option, 701E. Drive just about a mile to the end of the road and park. You may need a high clearance vehicle for one small part of the road…. This area is very close to Roof Ranch and shares the same parking area and driving directions.

From the parking lot, head uphill to the north northeast, and find a way over or under the barbed wire fence. Once you are through the fence, you should see two large rock formations - the one on the right is Roof Ranch. To get to Tash’s Lookout, walk to the left of the formation on the left. See the map below. After walking for about 5 minutes or so, you should see the formation.

This is the south side of the formation, where Tash’s corner is on the northeast side of the formation. The easiest approach is on looker's left. Scramble towards the wall, and walk past two routes with bolted anchors. The short route on the left is a finger crack with good stemming (unknown FA)? The route to the right is an offwidth that is runout at the top. Walk past these routes, and make your way to the backside through the path of least resistance.
