Description Suggest change

A small island with some trees just off the section of the Superior Hiking Trail that goes along the lake. If you get really lucky you can walk to the island but for the most part, you'll have to wade in waist-deep water and slippery rocks to get out to it. Steel yourself for the water getting to the island as it is never warm, not recommended to go during the winter as it's not always frozen over, and well... it's freezing. The rock feels nice and can be climbed after rain. Facing the island from land, the right side of the island is good to traverse around and the furthest right has the most bouldering feeling climbs as that's where it's tallest. Not recommended to climb if the waves are high as they can go over the island and you're guaranteed to get at least wet.

Getting There Suggest change

To get there take MN-61 from Grand Marais to County Road 14 there's a place to park away from the road to the right there and the island is a short hike north (left facing the water) from there. Alternatively, some people park where the Superior Hiking Trail crosses MN-61 on the side of the road. From the side of the road, there's a path through some woods that leads to Lake Superior and the Island is immediately visible upon reaching the beach.
