Description Suggest change

This wall lies on the rib of rock descending back down towards CO Hwy 82 from the Outlook Rock crag. Broken Butt Wall can be found below Broken Pole Wall. All climbs at this wall are sport bolted and rarely done. Be aware of crumbly rock and old bolts here.

This wall, along with the rest of the "Broken Walls" can be found within the most recent "The Pass" guidebook (2023) or "Independence Pass Rock Climbing II" guidebook (2006).

Getting There Suggest change

There are two ways to approach the "Broken Walls."

From below: park at the large, open, grassy pullout on the left side of CO 82 if heading towards Aspen. This pullout is found within a mile of being outside of Twin Lakes and is before the Willis Gulch TH. Park, and walk carefully back up CO 82 towards Twin Lakes. A faint trail will be found on the North side of CO 82. This trail will take you above the cliff band nearest the highway. Take care to bushwhack/route find your way to the cliffs. An easy way to orient oneself is by looking up at Outlook Rock and following the cliff line diagonally down towards the highway and wetlands.

From above: though it is not recommended, it is possible to access these walls via Outlook Rock. Start at Outlook Rock, and follow the cliff band down towards CO 82 via the scrubby, deadfall and talus-filled gully. Wear pants.

Old Bolts

If leading (or toproping for that matter), be aware of the aging bolts on routes. If the gear does not look safe, do not use it.

Private Land

Suggest change

While both described approaches do not cross private land, be aware of local landowners, and maintain a low profile. Do not cross clearly marked private land.
