Description
The Ludus Magnus (also known as the Great Gladiatorial Training School) was the largest of the gladiatorial schools in Rome.
In keeping with the name, the intention of this wall is to offer beginner climbers/leaders a chance to practice and hone their skill set on forgiving terrain. While the nearby Crag Against Humanity offers similar opportunities, the goal is that this crag provides climbing options for climbing partnerships visiting the area that have a variance in grade ability. Additionally, the approach itself will force some additional training in the form of fitness. Like all of the Colosseum areas, come here with the expectation the seclusion and views that make the hike worthwhile.
Getting There
Follow the trail used to approach the Aqueducts and Pantheon Wall. Continue uphill via a rudimentary trail (which will get better with time) to access the top of the cliff band. Before you reach the top, you will see a low angled wall to the left.
Alternatively, per other comments in this section, you could hike in via the Babad Do’Ag trail. This will probably take about 1hr/2 miles.
