Description Suggest change

If the Peloponnese were a cartoon character’s down swept four fingered hand, the Argolis peninsula would be the easternmost thumb.

Great, mostly single pitch sport climbing on compact grey limestone. With a variety of elevations and aspects, climbing year ‘round is possible.

Purportedly 3000 yearly hours of sun, the climate is very favorable for extended climbing vacations.

The main towns for lodging are Porto Heli and Ermioni and of course Nafplio.

The Argolis area has a boatload of distractions with plenty of archeological sites, beaches and culinary delights to satisfy. The hang is pretty darn good.

Some of the main crags with year ‘round climbing and fairly short approaches:

Katafyki Gorge – over 60 routes ranging from 5 to 7. Some multi pitch.

Pillars of the Wind – 50 plus routes from easy to really hard. Mini mountain peak.

Rock of Ages – 40-ish routes from 5 to 7.

Didyma – nearly 70 routes from 4 to 8. Great routes and views.

Guidebooks:

The only possibly available print guidebook is: Argolis – Sea, Rock, Sun by Jeannette and Hans Weninger. Jim Titt’s Climb Argolis guide is online at Bolt-Products. Excellent new route/crag offering for the area is online at Olympusmountaineering.com: Climbing in Ermionida, Argolis (Greece) Guidebook.

Getting There Suggest change

Fairly easy drive from the Athens airport. Crossing over the Corinth Canal into the Peloponnese, either take the more coastal highway 10, or head toward Nafplio.

Ermioni is about 2.5 hours from the Athens airport (ATH) and around 200 km.
