Description
Climbing areas are relatively close to residential neighborhoods. There are several boulders, but most are on the smaller side. However, there are two lines with bolted anchors for top-roping with each climb being roughly 25' high (my best estimate). The rock in the area can be feature-less, crumbly, or sharp, but some of it is decent, including the top-rope routes.
Getting There
There are at least three ways to get to the routes with top-rope anchors. One way is to park near the CVS near the corner of Railroad Canyon Road and Canyon Hills Road, walk up to Railroad Canyon Road, and find the mountain bike trail on the hill just behind the CVS. Follow that trail up the hill for about 15 minutes, and you should see part way up the trail the larger rocks at the top of the hill, which are the ones with top-rope anchors. This is the longer approach, but it's away from homes.
Another approach is to take Canyon Hills Road to Lost Road (turn right if coming from Railroad Canyon Road). Take a right on Cedarhill, which will be a steep road just before it curves sharply to the left just before it intersects with Birchwood. Park near that curve. There is an opening in the gate. Pass through that opening and head right. You can walk in a drainage ditch that follows behind houses towards a cell tower paved service road. Keep a low profile since you'll be walking behind people's homes, and it's a little awkward. Get to the service road and head up it. About halfway up, there is a part where you can start going down the other side of the hill, and you should be able to find a mountain bike trail around there. Head down the hill. You can literally follow that trail (eventually going in a northeasterly direction) to the larger boulders, which you should see after being on the trail for a couple minutes. Total approach this way is about 10 minutes.
The shortest approach is to park on Hollyhock Way off Poppy Way, go to the end of the cul-de-sac, and head up the hill to the boulders, which are visible from the cul-de-sac. You have to walk between two homes this way, so it's a little awkward.
