Description
Just outside of Trona, on the way to Death Valley is a little area where a stream has cut through a large granitic mass. While the stream is mostly gone, the rock remains and has a fair number of bolted and trad climbs scattered about.
Along with Fossil Falls, Wagon Wheel, Owens Ridge and Heller Rocks, this climbing area is "too hot to climb" most of the year and mainly of interest to locals, but might be worth a stop if you're passing through, and especially if you hate crowds. Keep in mind that because of the low climbing traffic the climbing is a little chossy (but not extremely bad) and should be treated as such. Helmets and sun protection required.
"Domelands" by Sally Moser and Greg Vernon (published 1992) lists more routes and beta, everything from 5.7 to 5.12c, and it feels like there's plenty of places for more development.
Getting There
Take highway 178/Trona Wildrose road out of Trona towards Death Valley. Past the Airport road turnoff and the Valley road turnoff to the East is a dirt road turn off to the West. This heads about 3.3 miles up and gets sandy near the end (high clearance 4x4 recommended, or park and hike the last .8 mile). The parking area is at 35.8561, -117.3811.
