The El Cajon Mountain climbing area is in close proximity to the San Diego River Park Foundation property. This property's purpose is to protect and conserve San Diego's threatened habitat and wildlife in perpetuity. Specifically, the San Diego River Park Foundation are protecting golden eagles that nest in the area and ceanothus, a California lilac that is an endemic sensitive plant species. Please avoid and limit recreational activities at the San Diego River Park Foundation property to promote San Diego's threatened habitat and wildlife. Thank you!
Getting There
The best approach is to climb Sleeping Giant from West Tier to pitch 9. Walk to the right around the buttress and follow the trail at the base of the cliff. Now go up the ramp to the Sauce and the other routes. From 2nd Tier continue south around the buttress on the carin trail, passing the gully and up to the ridge. At the top of the ridge is a good shade cave just before dropping into the Grand Slab. Continue up and left on a faint trail to a short hand line and the Breeze Ledge. The ledge continues around Breezeway towards the upper section of Sleeping Giant.
