Description
The solitary rock summit that guards the north end of Gold Creek. Most routes are class 3 and 4, and involve at least a two-day trip due to the location (or a VERY long day). The PCT passes far below the summit on the south side; many ascents are made by leaving the trail north and ascending to the top of Chikamin Ridge, then traversing to the summit. Alternatively, hike in Pete Lake and access on the east side of the ridge, or camp at Chikamin Lake and ascend the north face snow ramp to the summit block.
Getting There
Generally, approaches are from the PCT North trailhead at Snoqualmie Pass. Hike for several miles until passing under Chikamin Ridge. Camps can be made at Ridge/Gravel lakes.
Other Crest Trail approaches: hike in to Pete Lake and then to Glacier/Chikamin Lake for a camp on the PCT.
Before the PCT was built, approaches were done on the Gold Creek trail and either directly up the south headwall (scrambling) or up to Alaska Lake, up a gully to the ridge above, and then along to Chikamin Ridge.
