Description

Prominent limestone cliff band located at the mouth of the canyon accessed from the new Blacksmith River Trail and/or the Hyrum CCC Camp which it overlooks grandly.

Advisory: As with any new area, and one especially of suspect rock quality such as this one, climbers are advised to be cautious of loose dirt/lichen/moss and/or loose blocks/flakes/general choss - some of which may be big. This ain't Ten Sleeps. Considerable time and efforts have been made to clean each route to a safe level and place bolts in solid locations, however, the area is still being cleaned and refined. There is a reason it wasn't developed until this late date in the game despite being so accessible. As with all climbing it is done at your own risk. Do your part to help improve belay areas, trails, and clean holds. It is highly recommended to take extra safety precautions while belaying and climbing. With all that being said, it was hoped and determined that some good routes may emerge from the ashes with time and attention.

Getting There

A few minutes from the Hyrum Mcdonalds, park in the large, popular parking area at the mouth of the canyon that provides access to the river trail (south side) and the bonneville trail (north side). Parking is also available next to the bridge on the south side of the road. Cross the large, steel bridge that goes over the river and turn left to go upriver. Follow river trail for about 3-5 minutes then head uphill through the trees to the west (right side), and before the river trail takes a noticeable bend to the left. Trail to the crag starts north of the area and cuts diagonally cross hill. If you miss it, there are deer trails that aren't too bad and head for the obvious cliff band.
