Description Suggest change

Chris Castle Mountain is the name on the maps for this little chunk of granite sticking up out of the juniper just east of the Three Peaks. It holds a few sport lines, several short trad routes with one or two multi-pitch lines and many boulders. The routes you'll find online are the most popular, but the adventurous and creative may find many more options scattered about the formation.

Route sorting now starts at the Split Boulder as this is generally the easiest to identify to newcomers, then moves toward the main formation and then right (south) and around. Some of the sorting is hard to call because some routes may be higher or lower on the slope. Contemplation and Roundhouse are only about 100 yards apart, but it has to start somewhere!

Getting There Suggest change

Head west on Hwy 56 from Cedar City to Lund Hwy (3100 W), turn right (North). In about five miles, turn left (West) on Mid-Valley Rd. (4800 N). You should soon see signs for Three Peaks Recreation Area. After about 2 miles take a left on dirt road directly after the white fence around a large out-of-place house on the left. After about 200 yards, turn right onto the most developed dirt road heading towards the large granite formation. Several ATV trails crisscross throughout the area and most of them are good for full size vehicles. pick your favorite option leading in the direction of the rock. Stay to the right of the formation once you get close and look for the large Split Boulder right next to the dirt road. It's on the Northwest end of the formation. This is the easiest feature to find so the sorting of routes will start here.
