Description

Around the corner to the right of the Front Wall is a somewhat hidden and often overlooked area. However, it offers some fun and even challenging climbing. It's where many newbies come to get a taste of this awesome sport. In fact, this is where I took a girlfriend at the time for her first climbing experience. She seemed confident and focused as she scaled the rock. And though she did struggle and got stuck a few times, she eventually made it to the top and seemed psyched! Little did I know that during this "first ascent", she was terrified to the point of freezing-up and “nearly barfed at the top”. In the end though it must not have been that bad because she not only continued to pursue climbing but married me! There's now sport line here which is explained in more detail on that route's page. Check it out - a fun beginner route!

Southside Gully start is pretty varied as are the routes.

Getting There

Lower parking lot and access trail to the Lower Wall. Go around the right side and between the wall and a giant boulder to a small belay spot. Some sit atop the boulder to belay. Makes for a good eye on your climber.
