Description
Botswana is typically known for its fantastic safari and animal viewing potential, but few know about its rich and layered climbing history! Climbing has been going on since the early 90s in the nations capitol, Gaborone. There’s a number of bolted routes on Kgali hill in the capitol, but the country has massive potential for development elsewhere. Though, once you leave the capitol, it should be noted that prior to EVERY climb the closest village chieftain or, “kgosi” should be asked. Mainly out of respect and to preserve national heritage. Many beautiful rock formations have rock paintings/historical/cultural significance so its very important to ask before you climb. Even on the climbs that have already been accomplished! Not respecting this and just climbing at will could result in whole regions prohibiting climbing so please be respectful and ask village leadership prior to climbing
