Description

Lorimer Park is a 230-acre public park in Abington Township, Pennsylvania, right next to North Philly. The Pennypack Creek runs through the park and neighboring Pennypack Park. The parking lot is closed at 5PM so if you want to stay later you must park on a neighborhood street and make a short but rather dangerous walk down a hilly road with no sidewalk.

My boyfriend, Bill Tiernan and I were shocked to see little Lorimer Park get a photo and a mention in an article titled "Philly Rocks" in the Dec/Jan 2019 issue of Climbing Magazine, referring to it as a "hidden gem." Bill has climbed at Lorimer since he was a kid in the late 80's/early 90's. Though we now see a fair number of boulderers always working the same roof down by the bridge, we've only just begun seeing a few chalk marks left on the area that we always frequent, which is an extremely long traverse with a tricky. We thought we'd share the beta, as I'm guessing this place is going to see a lot more visitors!

Please use chalk sparingly and beware of broken glass and/or hazardous waste.

Getting There

The address for Lorimer Park is 183 Moredon Rd, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006. The parking lot is easy to find and is free. Cross the street and enter the park, walking down the hill towards the picnic pavilions and head across the footbridge towards the woods. You will see a tough bouldering problem immediately on the left. There is more bouldering, including fun warmups and long traverse if you continue into the woods.
