Description
Named by Willi Unsold, who was told of the spire by Leigh Ortenburger. Rub in the poach by naming it after Leigh’s childhood home. This slender satellite spire on the south side of the East Ridge of the Grand Teton is very difficult to differentiate from the Molar Tooth when viewed from the south.
When viewed from Tepee or Glencoe Cols or from down in the valley, along the Teton Park Road south of Jenny Lake, Okie's Thorn shows its slender profile and separation from the Molar Tooth.
Okie's Thorn is climbed from the Tepee Glacier, from the South. The Thorn rises just west of the Dike Col (a well known ski run) and east of Petzoldt's Chockstone Chimney.
