Description
Mostly vertical slabby climbing with some steep routes as well. Also houses a nice little collection of beginner routes for newer leaders.
Getting There
Make your way down to the Tierrany Roofs and continue past until you come into the Middle Obed area. Do NOT simply continue on absently down the path from here, as you'll run out of trail and developed rock for that matter. Locate Latex Lover and look for a slightly obscure path heading down into the woods that empties out onto a lower trail. We located it just slightly climbers left of the start to Latex Lover. Once down on the lower trail you'll pass the Underground Area and Slammer Ledge, which you can't miss as there is a large wooden ladder leading up to the Ledge. Once past the ladder, you'll enter into Fort Sandstone proper.
You can also access this area from the other side if you're familiar with the drainage ditch (more of a picturesque small, downhill flowing creek than a "ditch") that bisects West Obed and Area-X. From the Point Trail intersection as you near the cliff line, head right instead of left (which would take you to Tierrany Roofs). Navigate your way to the drainage ditch (near 36.088639,-84.718130), and as you come down, West Obed will be to your left, and Area-X will be to your right. Head past West Obed and you'll soon come to Fort Sandstone.
