Description
Bouldering as a sport unto its own end has been going on at Keyhole since the earliest climbers in the late 60s. Joe Herbst climbed all over the canyon with and without a rope. Randy Grandstaff, Lynn Hill, John Long, and Richard Harrison climbed extensively in the Lower Canyon in the 70s. The local lore was that they had climbed everything up to the 5.12 range. Team Keyhole has actively bouldered all over from the late 70s. Several bouldering competitions have been held here with boulder problems or top ropes on every facet of rock within 100’ of the wash. Even so, as each new generation of climbers come through, a few harder and more inventive problems are found.
NOTE: Some short routes that may be done as TRs or leads are also done as boulders, e.g. some of the climbs at Front Bouldering Wall, so it may be worth investigating the roped climbing pages as well when looking for potential boulder problems.
